This week’s spotlight
The latest guide from us was published this weekend. This time we look at some of the negatives of the EU civil service career. A topic not often described outside the corridors of EU. You can find a brief summary below:
A career in the EU civil service offers excellent pay and benefits, making it an attractive option for many. However, it also has its downsides. Many employees feel trapped in a "golden cage" because they know they will not achieve the same level of salary and benefits if they leave.
This leads to a high level of psychological problems and issues among staff, but they remain in their positions due to the security and stability it provides. The perpetuation of these conditions is why the nextEUjob project aims to bring talented people with external experiences into the EU cycle to shift the culture of the EU civil service in a positive direction.
A word from our team
The Balkans are in the spotlight this week! Besides the flurry of positions around Benelux (with Brussels “the usual suspect” leading the pack at 7), the new ECCC agency in Romania is starting to hire the nucleus of its staff. Great chance to get your foot in the door!
ECCC is both in the least desirable quadrant (as per our earlier guide on geo-locating agencies) and is a newly established agency (read our guide on why older agencies are more alluring).
What does that mean for you? Less competition from internal EU staff jockeying for a new post. In other words, it gives you a better chance of entering the EU civil service and landing your next EU job!
