We have 9000+ followers across our social media platforms, where we share all this know-how. We want the EU civil service to benefit from hiring the best talent among EU citizens. We hope our resources help you on your path towards YOUR next EU job.

This week’s spotlight

If you're a foreign national working for an EU institution but have already lived in your country of employment before joining, you don't miss out on allowances entirely. This week's article explains the foreign residence allowance, a lesser-known benefit worth 4% of your combined basic salary and family allowances that applies only to people in that situation. We also walk through exactly how it compares to the full 16% expatriation allowance, who qualifies (including contract agents and temporary staff), and the one special rule that protects spouses who involuntarily acquired local nationality through marriage. It's the kind of detail that can meaningfully affect your take-home pay and is well worth understanding before you sign your contract so head over to the full article to see how it applies to your situation!

A word from our team

Concerns about governance at the European Economic and Social Committee are drawing attention after multiple staff complaints to OLAF regarding alleged misconduct by its secretary general, highlighting that accountability mechanisms within EU institutions can be active but also lengthy. For aspiring EU professionals, this underscores both the importance of institutional transparency and the reality that workplace culture and leadership standards can vary across bodies. The standard of scrutiny can be much higher in the EU civil service than in other national governments.
