🎩 News from the top of the Commission! According to a recent news story, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has established new hiring rules for incoming commissioners to promote diversity in nationality, gender, and seniority within their cabinets.

Each cabinet must include an equal number of men and women and representatives from multiple nationalities, with restrictions on hiring from the same country as the commissioner. Additionally, all heads of cabinet will now require a security clearance, marking the first significant update to these hiring guidelines since von der Leyen took office in 2019.

The Commission's hiring policies are often indicators of trends within the wider EU civil service, so expect similar criteria to trickle down the structure and impact hiring in the future.
