This week’s spotlight

If you've received a job offer from the European Commission or an EU agency, here's what you need to know about the mandatory medical examination. First, having a medical condition won't disqualify you – people with conditions from diabetes to heart disease have successfully joined EU institutions. Second, while pre-existing conditions may involve a five-year waiting period for full insurance coverage through JSIS, most healthcare is still covered at 80-85%. Third, your medical information remains strictly confidential, with only a generic fitness statement shared with HR. Click through to read our complete guide with practical tips for navigating the process with confidence - https://nexteujob.com/2026/02/16/what-to-expect-from-your-eu-medical-examination/

A word from our team

The European Commission has launched a new AD5 generalist competition. The first in 7 years! Seen as the main entry gateway for graduates into permanent EU civil service roles, reflecting efforts to refresh recruitment and attract younger talent into the institutions. The process aims to modernize hiring through updated EPSO procedures and potentially faster, more flexible selection methods, responding to longstanding criticism that EU recruitment is slow and complex. For aspiring EU candidates, it signals a renewed push to bring in fresh profiles across backgrounds, making this competition a key opportunity to enter the system and build a long-term EU career.
