The European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) is recruiting a Deputy Accounting Officer (AST.2025.05) to support and deputize for the Accounting Officer in financial operations, treasury management, statutory accounting and internal control in accordance with EU financial regulations. This role is ideal for candidates with proven experience with financial IT systems such as ABAC, SAP, or Business Objects, in-depth knowledge of EU Financial Regulation and International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), and experience working collaboratively with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to drive strategic outcomes. All of which would be significant advantages in this position. The deadline to apply is 6 January 2026 at 23:59 (Lisbon time).

⚖️ We didn’t get a chance to mention the big scandal that rocked the EU civil service over a week ago, but Federica Mogherini — former EU foreign policy chief and then-Rector of the College of Europe — resigned after being named a suspect in a high-profile fraud and corruption investigation tied to an EU-funded diplomatic training programme that triggered raids by Belgian police and scrutiny from the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The case, which also involves another senior EU official, has raised serious questions about procurement practices and integrity in EU institutions, and could affect perceptions of accountability and careers within the EU system for those thinking about joining it. For aspiring EU staff, it’s a reminder that even senior officials are subject to strict rules on transparency, fair competition and ethical conduct — and that breaches can lead to major legal and reputational consequences.
